AKTER PSYCHOTHERAPY
Meet Dr. Akter
Naeema Akter, Psy.D.
I earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from Widener University's Institute of Graduate Clinical Psychology. Prior to my doctorate, I graduated from Hunter College with a concentration in political science and attended Columbia University for a post-baccalaureate in psychology. I am currently a licensed psychologist in New York state.
Clinical Experience
During my doctorate program, I gained thorough experience in a variety of settings including: Widener Partnership Charter School (individual/group therapy and intelligence/educational assessment on children), KeyStone Center (inpatient group/individual therapy to those recovering from drugs and alcohol), Temple University's Neuropsychological Assessment Center (testing to assess memory impairments, ADHD, dementia, and other cognitive decline), Belmont Behavioral Health Hospital (outpatient group/individual therapy to children, adolescents, and adults with a wide variety of presentation), and Center for Integrative Medicine (outpatient group/individual/couples therapy with individuals in recovery from opioids). I gained additional experience in nonprofit spaces empowering south asian women through SAPNA and Sakhi for South Asian Women. My postdoctoral residency of 2 years was at Cooper Mental Health Counseling, where I treated a wide variety of presenting problems among children, adolescents, and adults in a midtown Manhattan private practice setting.

I currently see adolescents, adults, and couples virtually in my private practice, Akter Psychotherapy.
